Find Allergy Relief With An Air Purifier

People who have allergies can best keep their symptoms under control by minimizing their exposure to the allergens that set them off. If you have allergies to airborne allergens, then an allergy relief air purifier or a car air purifier may be a wise investment in your comfort. You can find a lot of different models and brands of home air purifiers so you will have to figure out which one you will get the best results from.

Many home air purifiers use ozone to remove allergenic particles from the air. Ozone is an interesting molecule which has both beneficial and harmful properties. It consists of three oxygen atoms, which is an inherently unstable configuration which breaks down quickly, releasing an oxygen ion which is also a free radical. The presence of these free radicals is potentially dangerous to your lungs. It is thought that these free radicals can increase your likelihood of developing serious illnesses like cancer or asthma. If you have asthma, any air purifier that produces ozone should be avoided.

While home air purifiers don’t typically generate enough ozone to harm you, you will notice the characteristic smell of ozone while they are running. The ozone created by home air purifiers bond with the chemical compounds you are trying to remove from the air and destroy them. There are also home air purifiers which use electrically charged metal plates instead of ozone to remove airborne particulates like pet dander, pollen and other materials. Using fans to move air through the purifier, particles are attracted to the plates. With these home air purifiers, you need to clean the metal plates weekly.

Allergy relief air purifiers can’t make your allergies disappear, but you’ll feel much better when you use them. The air in your home will be free of most dust, smoke and pollen particles. You will need to use home air purifiers which are powerful enough for the space you want to use them in. For instance, you can get by with a small and inexpensive system for a 10 x 15’ space. However, if you want to clear the air in a larger room, you’ll need a bigger and more costly model.

A HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter is a must-have item in home air purifiers. HEPA filters do not let the particles that the air purifier attracts to the metal plates make their way back into the air, which is important for air quality. Some but not all HEPA filters are washable; washable filters are reusable. A HEPA filter may need to be replaced every couple of years or last as long as ten years; usually as long as the home air purifier itself. The price of home air purifiers does not always have a lot to do with the quality of the filters.

If you’re sensitive to sounds, you’ll want to make sure that the air purifier you choose runs so quietly that you can’t tell if it’s on – quality home air purifiers are extremely quiet. Some models make loud electrical crackles or pops; others have fans which are so loud that it’s hard to hear over them. You should always use a good quality filter in your heating and cooling system in your home. If you want to get your air even cleaner, though, you should look at home air purifiers especially for your bedroom or home office. The rooms you spend the most time in need to have the best air quality.
